Not Ready to Give Up Fresh Foam? New Balance Introduces the Ellipse Daily Running Shoe

After 10 years of using versions of Fresh Foam, the New Balance 1080 daily running franchise moved on from the material this year and switched to a brand-new Infinion supercritical foam for its 15th iteration. But for those not ready to give up the specific sensation, New Balance is introducing a fresh model featuring Fresh Foam X.

The New Balance Ellipse v1 will launch in March as a new option for daily training at a lower price point than the 1080v15. It’s use of a Fresh Foam X comes as part of broader mission for comfort, which is also catered to with a highly cushioned tongue and collar and forgiving stretch laces. The shape of the midsole itself is unique, and its outsole carries pod-like shapes at contact points that appear to bridge the gap between the 1080v14 and 1080v15.

A breathable mesh upper then carries a Swooping gradient pattern complementing another on the midsole and that should deliver some lifestyle appeal.

Stack height comes in at 37.8mm with an 8mm drop, and a men’s size 9.5 weighs 274 grams.

“The Ellipse celebrates all who run — whether logging their first miles or recovering after race day — by delivering an elevated cushioned experience and a rockered profile that helps keep things easy on the body.” Kevin FitzPatrick, New Balance global vice president of running, said in a press release. “It’s designed to motivate runners of all types to get out there and enjoy their run.”

On the lifestyle front, New Balance will launch another new model called the 1890 in March.

The New Balance v1 will release March 5 through New Balance’s website and stores, as well as additional stockists. Men’s and women’s sizing will each get seven colorways at launch, and pricing is set at $145.
