New Balance’s Red-Hot Low-Profile Sneaker Is Coming Out in Pastel Suede

New Balance’s new 204L sneaker has been a runaway hit for the Boston-based footwear brand with rapid sellouts in nearly every style that has been released thus far. After the recent launch of the Pearl Gray colorway, another pastel pair will be released in November, but don’t expect it to last on store shelves for long.
The New Balance 204L will soon arrive in a Pink Taffy/Rose Sugar style which drapes the 1970s-inspired design in two tones of soft pink shades. Here, the majority of the suede-based sneaker appears in a Pink Taffy with lighter Rose Sugar portions filling in the model’s technical overlays. The near-tonal looks have been a successful recipe for the 204L thus far, although this particular pair switches things up slightly with its two-tone pink look. Rounding out the look, the shoe’s liner and shoelaces appear in white and it’s all capped off with a dark gray outsole.

While low-profile sneakers have proliferated in the industry this year, the 204L is unique in that it doesn’t take a fully ‘70s-informed approach. Instead, this offering from New Balance uses a ‘70s running shoe-inspired structure while adding the brand’s more technical 2000s-era overlays to the upper. The ’70s-meets-Y2K concept is even carried over to the midsole, which pairs a more modern strike path configuration with a retro traction pattern. Tech-wise, the shoe is a relatively no-frills affair, using screen-printed 204L branding at the heel and EVA foam cushioning.
Thin-soled sneakers were a top trend in 2025. From athletic brands like Adidas and Vans to designer offerings from Bottega Veneta and Rick Owens, the low-profile look has been found at nearly every price point. Perhaps the most notable of them all was the continuation of the Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL, which is the FN Achievement Awards Collaboration of the Year winner.
Following an early preview in August, the New Balance 204L will be released in Pink Taffy/Rose Sugar on Nov. 18. The pair will be available from newbalance.com at 10 a.m. ET for a retail price of $120 and can also be found from select retailers. The style code for this colorway is U204LMMD.
