The sports world is in mourning after the tragic loss of Diogo Jota. The 28-year-old Liverpool athlete and his brother, André Silva, passed away Thursday morning in a car accident, prompting tons of tributes from prominent figures in the soccer community, including Adidas.

Enjoying five successful seasons with Liverpool, Jota represented the brand at different points, and shortly after the announcement, the official Instagram account of the brand’s football division posted a touching tribute on his behalf.

The statement read: “The adidas family is deeply saddened by the loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go to their family, friends, and all who know and love them. Diogo will be remembered as a Champion on and off the football pitch.”

Also leading the way in tributes were Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James, with both taking to their respective social media accounts to post tributes of their own. “It doesn’t make sense. Now we are together in the Seleção, now you are married. To your family, to your wife, and to your children, I send my best feelings and wishes to you all across the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André,” wrote Ronaldo on Instagram. James added, “My prayers goes out to his loved ones during this time! May you all be guided and protected!”

Over the years, Jota has been featured in Adidas campaigns and videos showcasing their latest releases. He was also seen wearing various Adidas apparel both on and off the pitch. This includes the match-issued Adidas X Speedportal.1 boots he was seen wearing during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Jota participated in Adidas-sponsored 5-a-side football tournaments and costarred in brand campaigns alongside other players, such as Luis Diaz. An official wake is expected to take place Friday in the brothers’ hometown of São Cosme in Gondomar, Portugal.
