Why Birkenstock Chose the Chicago Suburbs for First Midwest Store

Birkenstock is continuing its U.S. retail expansion with its first Midwestern store in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Ill.

According to the German footwear brand, the new store is located at 20 W. Jefferson Avenue and offers Birkenstock’s full footwear collection for men, woman and kids, along with the Care Essentials line of premium, all-natural foot care products.

David Kahan, president of Birkenstock Americas, told FN that the company decided to open this location after hosting a pop-up at local retailer Naperville Running Company a few years ago.

“[The pop-up] gave us our first glimpse into just how special the local community is,” Kahan said. “The passion and dedication of our fans, particularly around the post-run sport world was truly inspiring. It highlighted the opportunity to connect in a bigger way throughout the year, and we’re excited to return with a dedicated space to share the full Birkenstock collection with Naperville.”

The Naperville store joins Birkenstock’s expanding U.S. retail footprint, which includes locations in New York City, Brooklyn, Venice Beach, Miami, Marin County, Austin, Houston, Nashville and Boston.

This news comes after the German footwear firm reported earlier this month that total company revenue in the third quarter of fiscal 2025 increased 12 percent to 635.0 million euros, up from 564.8 million euros the same time last year.

In the Americas segment, Birkenstock noted that it delivered third quarter revenue growth of 10 percent on a reported basis to 312.3 million euros, up from 282.9 million euros the prior year.

The company added that both wholesale and direct-to-consumer “grew at a strong double-digit pace” in constant currency in the region. Plus, the company opened three new stores in the quarter, bringing the total number of own stores in the Americas segment to 13.

On the company’s third quarter earnings call earlier this month Oliver Reichert, chief executive officer of Birkenstock Holding, told analysts that its wholesale business in the Americas region is “especially strong.”

“Importantly, we saw no pushback or cancellations following the July 1 price increases implemented in response to tariffs,” Reichert said. “In a flat U.S. market, retail revenue at our top 10 wholesale partners was up 25 percent. As you do your channel checks for back-to-school, you will hear that Birkenstock is the winner with very strong sellout and fast inventory turns.”
