EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Martens Reworks Its Iconic 1460 Boot For the Rain

Dr. Martens is expanding its product offering with the debut of its first-ever rain boot.
Called the 1460 Rain Boot, the silhouette is shaped to mirror the silhouette of Dr. Martens iconic 1460 boot.
The brand’s first fully waterproof rain boot utilizes its signature heat-sealed construction and air-cushioned outsole. Dr. Martens also made sure to carry over its signature details into the style with features like molded faux welt stitching, a grooved sole edge, a rubberized heel loop, and molded Puritan stitch detailing.
Plus, the boot – which comes in DM’s Yellow, Black, and DM’s Olive colorways – use the brand’s Ben sole with an exaggerated tread which is paired with a SoftWair insole.
April Vitkus, vice president of Marketing at Dr. Martens, told FN in an interview that the new launch was meant to meet its consumer demand for year-round, weather-resistant footwear.
“Our consumer really wants to wear their Docs year-round and for every occasion,” Vitkus said. “And you can see it in our product portfolio, it’s pretty diverse – from boots to sandals and loafers and Mary-Janes. And I think when we looked at that portfolio, we realized we identified this gap in our offering for just a really dependable everyday all-weather boot. And so that consumer insight just sparked this vision for the 1460 Rain, which is a rain boot reimagined through our lens.”

The executive added that launches like this one also illustrates Dr. Martens’ approach to innovation.
“Innovation for us as a brand is not about just chasing what’s new and what’s next,” Vitkus maintained. “As a 65-year-old brand, we are so lucky to have a rich history to pull from to reimagine some of our best silhouettes, and that’s how this rain boot was born. We like to stretch the possibilities of what we can do with our products.”
As for what’s next, Vitkus is excited about what’s to come in 2026. “Our goal is to broaden the brand appeal in the U.S. and to welcome more consumers into this incredible brand. I think you’ll be hearing a lot of product stories from us, a lot about our craftsmanship, and more about our innovation. And we’re going to continue to have fun with it.”
To mark the launch, Dr. Martens will host a three-day immersive takeover that will transform its Williamsburg retail location in Brooklyn, New York, from Friday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 9. The brand noted that the takeover aims to invite guests to experience the new product line, enjoy light refreshments, win free giveaways, and with every purchase, receive a custom Dr. Martens umbrella while supplies last.
The 1460 Rain boot, which retails for $110, is now available online at Drmartens.com and at all Dr. Martens retail locations.
